The Debate
A few days ago, we had our eleventh contemporary design culture class. I would say that it wasn’t our usual class but being this far into the semester, most of the classes had something different going on but anyway, this time we had our grand debate. This debate involved to teams of two going up against each other with the stance of being for or against their motion of choosing. My teams motion was that good design can be cheap and due to a lack of choice at that time, we were against the motion. This may seem like an impossible argument to make and is suppose since we lost, you could say that it was. As we delved deep into research, looking up facts and details about different high end products. I find it odd to think that as we progressed through our research I was slowly convincing myself that we were actually right and a glimmer of hope started to appear that we had a chance of winning and that our motion actually made the most sense but unfortunately the majority didn’t agree. I found it very interesting to see everyone take such a strong stance on the motion that they were defending or ridiculing regardless of what they actually felt towards it given that not everyone got to choose the motion that they wanted. It proved that deliverance was very important in convincing a group of something. Taking our debate into account, I felt that the other group had far less evidence and facts that they were right compared to us although they were far quicker to react and were able to throw us off easily however unprofessional it may have been it still one the crowded making me think that sometimes to get where you want to be you might have to deviate from the straight and narrow and study your audience and try to appeal to them in a style that they can relate to.
